H I S T O R Y ~We always have and always will make our original designs by hand in the USA~ ~Made in New Jersey, "birthplace of the eletric light bulb"~ Lucid Lighting had its start in 1986 designing custom fixtures for architectural projects in New York. Designer-craftsman Robert Wallace, (architecture and sculpture RISD, BS Architectural Technology NYIT, with experience in architectural design as well as furniture design and construction) was asked by the architect Leslie Gill, Architect NYC, to create a light for one of her projects that they were working on. He had already worked with Leslie on the designing and building furniture, fixtures and lights on many other projects. It was accepted and installed. Sometime soon after, Lesie asked him if he could create some original hand made lights for the new offices of a young and upcoming graphics firm - then under design and construction in NYC. The lights were a big success; (floor lamps, sconces and ceiling lights were ordered and also some for the principals' apartments). A new business was born and it was named "Lucid Lighting". Since that time (1986), Lucid has become Robert's sole business incorporating so much of the knowledge and skills he aquired through the years. An ever expanding line of light fixtures has been gradually developed for commercial and residential uses. The style of Lucid lights can be called "transitional" - traditional in feel and some details but simple and straight forward in execution. These unique designs are given further character by being hand made to order. The passion is for good, simple design and quality construction. The variety of finishes and customizations possible are virtually limitless. They are also designed not just to look good but also to give good light. At Lucid we value good, friendly relationships with our clients. The phone will always be answered by someone who can give you the answers to your questions. Emails are great, so don't be shy - email away. We are also proud that all lights are our own unique designs and are hand made only by us in the USA. Our goal is to make lights with the best materials and quality, beauty and integrity that can be valued for generations. The lights are guaranteed for the life and we welcome lights that come back even after 20 or 30 years of use if they need anything to keep them going. For that we happily charge nothing. In fact we feel this is indirectly constructive advertising. We are very interested in new technology and will make available the latest and best in illumination such as with LEDs. We do no advertising but believe that quality of design and customer satisfaction should be the driving force behind our success. "In 1994 we built our Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Style home. For the light in the kitchen we selected a Lucid Lighting 'Temple Urn'. We love it! It provides the perfect lighting and artistic accent to the space and the verdi finish and brass rods aligned with the natural feeling we wanted.
