Do you seek some perfect ambiance for nesting? ..a place to eat? ..drink wine?
I recommend the perfect warm glow of dimmed bistro lighting at Jules.
We arrived early Friday (6-7-ish) to avoid the crowds and easily found a good table (it filled up quickly later).
Our attentive and knowledgeable waitress spoke with a lovely accent .
That accent, by the way was no accident - the accent at Jules is French and delightfully so .
The atmosphere at Jules is elegant, warm and relaxing .
There's a comfortable feeling of neighborhood, friendliness and age.
We were presented with a long wine list which we went over carefully with our charming server.
A bottle of red was decided on, found in back storage and
after a small pour, sent to rest by the kitchen oven to get up to perfect temperature.
The food was beautifully presented and delightfully prepared. Portions are petite which suites us.
We normally do not consider desert but at a place like this, worth trying. We were not disappointed
but delighted. The desert was very delicate and subtly flavored and mildly sweet.
Also the live music started up (Jules is noted for its live jazz at night). This was a kind of New Orleans fusion
by what appeared to be local musicians and followed by a good natured passing of the hat.
Jules means boyfriend in French
but if you are a Julie (a girlfriend) or you're something else? No matter - We
recommend Jules Bistro
for a great New York-French bistro experience.
